Utilities such as Duke Energy, Dominion, Georgia Power, Entergy and National Grid fund nonprofits, towns and local businesses in their service areas. Find yours by state.
Updated October 16, 2026 · 100 programs you can use now
Your power company is probably a grant maker. Most investor-owned utilities run a charitable foundation or community grant program for the area they serve, and some fund economic development directly. National Grid's upstate New York programs, for example, help redevelop vacant commercial buildings and bring jobs to town.
These programs are local by design. Duke Energy's foundation funds nonprofits and local governments in the counties it serves across six states. Open your state below to see what's available where you are, with amounts, eligibility and the steps to apply.

Can a for-profit business get a grant from a utility?
Sometimes. Charitable foundations fund nonprofits and local governments, but economic development programs, such as National Grid's in upstate New York and TVA's performance grants in the Tennessee Valley, can fund businesses that create jobs in the service area.
Are energy-efficiency rebates included?
No. We list grants you apply for, not per-appliance or per-kilowatt-hour rebates. Ask your utility about rebates separately.
