Kansas Industrial Training (KIT)

Kansas Department of CommerceNo deadline listed

Summary

Kansas companies creating at least one net new job paying at least the county median wage can get reimbursed for new-hire training costs (instructors, curriculum, materials, minor equipment, travel), typically $1,200-$2,000 per trainee.

About this grant

KIT reimburses Kansas companies for training tied to net new job creation, covering instructor salaries, curriculum planning, materials, training aids, minor training equipment and travel. A company must create at least one new position paying at least the median wage for its county. Commerce guidelines put the typical funding range of a successful project at $1,200 to $2,000 per trainee, and KIT projects do not require a company match. Applications are accepted year round with a non-refundable $500 application fee.

Who can apply

  • Small businesses
  • For-profit companies

Firms must show they are creating at least one net new job in the State of Kansas (for expanding companies, jobs above the average employee base of the preceding 12 months).

A company must create at least one new position at an average wage equal to or greater than the median wage for their county.

Priority is given to Kansas Basic Industries (manufacturing, multi-state wholesale distribution, regional or national service, agriculture, mining, R&D, interstate transportation, and tourism aimed at out-of-state tourists); non-basic industries need a compelling economic benefit.

A non-manufacturing company must show at least 51% of its revenue is generated from sources outside Kansas.

Health care coverage must be made available to all employees.

The application must be submitted prior to or concurrent with the beginning of the hiring or training phase.
