Indiana Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) State Incentive Payments

Indiana State Department of Agriculture (with USDA Farm Service Agency)No deadline listed

Summary

Indiana pays a one-time state incentive of $100-$950 per acre (on top of federal CRP cost-share and rent) to farmers and landowners who enroll environmentally sensitive cropland in 14-15 year CREP contracts for buffers, wetlands and trees. Statewide, continuous enrollment through ISDA or the local FSA office.

About this grant

CREP is a partnership between the USDA Farm Service Agency and the Indiana State Department of Agriculture that pays landowners and farmers to take environmentally sensitive cropland out of production and install buffers, wetlands and tree plantings under 14 to 15 year contracts. On top of federal cost-share, rental and incentive payments, Indiana pays a one-time state incentive of $100 to $950 per acre depending on the practice. Since October 2024 the program is available in every county and watershed in Indiana, and enrollment is continuous.

Who can apply

  • Small businesses
  • For-profit companies
  • Individuals

Landowners may enroll any amount of eligible cropland in the voluntary federal and state program for a contract period of 14-15 years.

Cropland must meet cropping history criteria and be physically and legally capable of being cropped in a normal manner.

Acreage already under an existing CRP contract (or an approved offer with a contract pending) is ineligible until that contract expires.

Installation of conservation practices must be completed within 12 months of the federal CREP contract effective date.

Enrolled land cannot be developed and cannot go back into row crops or agricultural uses during the contract.
